FEBRURARY 2008
Aaron Zanotti Signs for Red Viper Racing.
Loughborough’s own motorbike race-ace, Aaron Zanotti will be contesting the 2008 British Superbike Championship having clinched a deal to ride for Red Viper Racing.
A jubilant Zanotti said: “I am delighted to have signed with Red Viper and to be able to have another crack at the British Superbike Championship. This is an experienced and well organised team that have been fielding riders in this class for a few years and to have such good backing gives me a lot of confidence.”
Zanotti will be campaigning the teams Honda Fireblades, one of which is ready while the other is nearing completion at the teams Warrington headquarters.
“ To have two race bikes is a first for me and will be a big asset. Knowing you have that back up, can just give you an edge in the way you ride and as last year proved, a spare will mean I won’t miss a race through a practice spill or a technical glitch.”
A new single make tyre policy dictates that only Pirelli tyres will be used in the championship and rule changes for the new season means the Superbike engines will have to remain largely standard, both points that Zanotti sees as beneficial to his challenge:
“I raced a Honda Fireblade in the last two rounds in 2007 and was really pleased with it. The Fireblades renowned mechanical reliability could be a big factor in the results this season so I’m very happy to be riding the Red Viper Hondas. And I hope the experience gained racing on Pirelli’s last year will stand me in good stead this year. The rule changes are going to bring some much closer racing this season!”
Plans are being made by the team for Aaron to begin testing on racetracks in the warmer climes of southern Spain, including the official British Superbike test at the Guadax circuit in the first week of March.
The British Superbike Championship kicks off at Brands Hatch on 4th, 5th and 6th April.
